The Improvement of Preschool or Nursery Education in Malaysia

Although the Malaysian Government does not mandate pre-school education, recently, steps are being taken to include nursery and pre-primary education as an important part of the curriculum. Last year, Malaysia hosted the Asia-Pacific Regional Policy Forum on Early Childhood Care and Education. There, all the participating nations rooted for at least one year of compulsory pre-primary education with extra attention to the special children. It is expected that the changes will start taking place with the revision of KSPK or the Kurikulum Standard Prasekolah Kebangsaan. The KSPK is revised every 7 years to ensure that the education system is completely up-to-date. It also makes necessary changes to the existing system, if required.

Thus, it is not long before all the children in Malaysia start receiving the suitable pre-school education like that of other countries. With new and improved syllabi, proper reading materials and teachers pursuing teacher training courses and getting certified in Malaysia, the educational program will soar.

Types of Pre-School Education in Malaysia:
There are mainly two types of preschool education offered to the Malaysian toddlers. One by the public non-profit organizations that are mostly situated in the rural areas and another by private for-profit organizations, mostly in the urban centers. Is there any difference between the two? Yes, the basic differences lie in the way of academic approach. Let us know more about those.

The Public Non-Profit Organizations focus mainly on the socio-emotional development of the child. They do not care much about the academic development until the child is 6 years old.

The Private For-Profit Organizations emphasize academics more than anything else, even at such a tender age.

So, ultimately it depends on the parents what type of preschool education they wish their toddlers to receive. The Ministry of Education does not provide any type of curriculum for the children under the age of four. Hence, it is up to the parents and the certified educators to decide what will be best for the children.
Certified?
Oh yes!
Even if you want to teach a toddler in the country, you have to possess some kind of certification in an advanced nursery teacher training course in Malaysia. The Government has mandated every new preschool teacher to have at least one globally recognized certification. By 2020, it is believed that all teachers will have to be qualified accordingly to lead a successful career in teaching Kindergarten kids.

What are the Immediate Benefits of this Development?
■ The children are going to learn a lot of things at a tender age including basic manners
■ There will be less pressure on the parents to make the children eligible for attending schools
■ Professionally trained teachers are going to take care of the child’s welfare
■ Systematic development ensured with an interest in games and other extracurricular activities

If you are keen to join the bandwagon of teachers educating the Malaysian kids to lead their lives in a better way, opt for the best nursery teacher training course in Malaysia and apply for a job in the country as soon as possible. Make a difference to this society and let people remember you for what you did!
