The South East Asian country is not only a tourists’ dreamland but also a profitable ground for global teachers. After completing their primary teacher training course in Vietnam, many aspiring teachers take up advanced courses and earn certificates to create a strong foothold in the education sector. It is a quite lucrative opportunity for individuals wanting to do it big with their teaching abilities. There is a lot of scope for improvement in the Vietnamese education sector. If you love challenges and, you are looking for a source of good income, this is the place you should be. But, all is not green in this South East Asian country. You will need some time to get adjusted to the lifestyle as well as your career. With over 50 students in each classroom, teaching can be a tad difficult in the beginning. Of course, you will get used to it. As a help, this post is going to give you some ideas regarding the pros and cons of teaching in Vietnam.

Pros:
■ You can earn about $20-$25 per hour in Vietnam. The working hours, however, vary a lot (from 15–40 hours a week) depending on the individual schedules
■ A well-settled job, giving you intermittent breaks in between to plan holidays and visit your home country for a while
■ Cost of living is so low! It will help you save the most of your earnings
■ Work hours are lesser than anywhere else in the world. You will have your own “Me” time to do the things you love apart from teaching
■ It will give you a scope to overcome your biggest fears and take up challenges that you never thought you would be able to complete successfully
■ The locals are extremely friendly toward the teachers and regard them as a part of the community

Now, let us come to the cons -

Cons:

■ You are going to face certain cultural differences in the beginning as you set off teaching a classroom of more than 50 children or so
■ The classrooms are jam packed with children, noisy, impatient and really hard to handle
■ Language is also going to be a big problem in your initial days of teaching. You will require a translator on a regular basis. Furthermore, if you are teaching English, you have to be acquainted with the local language to make it easier for your students to understand
■ A disorganized system will further demotivate you. Sometimes, you will get your schedule just a day before which will leave no scope to plan your next day curriculum
■ Constant running to the language centers for proper resources will give rise to discontentment and fatigue.

In spite of the aforementioned cons, any teacher would love to take a job in Vietnam because of the immense challenges it offers. As it is, teaching can get a little boring after few years. So, you need to have a constant source of excitement and new challenges to keep the excitement on. Now, if you are interested, be quick enough to grab a certificate in a teacher training course in Vietnam and start your career right away. The country awaits your involvement to improve their situation.
