April 22 — Obstruction

Sometimes when you see something it doesn’t immediately register in your mental faculties. I pass the intersection at 2nd and F Northeast every weekday on my way to work. It’s usually bustling pretty good with cars, cyclists, and pedestrians, but today they had skipped a beat. I didn’t see why until I stepped into the crosswalk. A white sedan was in the center of the intersection, empty and unmoving. Cars hesitated at the stop signs, unsure of what to do.

Wait, what? Why was nobody there? Where was the driver? Then I saw part of the bumper on the road. On the opposite side of the intersection another car had pulled over, its emergency flashers blinking. Two men were bickering. Why hadn’t they moved the white car?

I made it across the intersection and continued on. Behind me a horn sounded.
