June 11 — Mystery morning

I woke before six in the morning to the sound of a crying child. I dared not get out of bed. Later Randy’s voice became audible. He was speaking to his children.

“We have some fellow friends this morning.”

I felt like a kid might burst in at any moment, so I tried to go back to sleep while I still could. For two hours I tossed and turned. Then I heard Lauren’s voice.

“Good morning!”

“Good morning Lauren.” It was Randy again.

It was time to get up. I couldn’t leave her down there alone with him after what happened last time she was here. I got up and showered and went downstairs as quickly as I could.
