My Next Read.

Why I want to read fight club, and how it relates.

So I have to talk about a novel, preferably one I actually want to read, so I thought, why not choose one that relates to my portfolio themes, that’s when I remembered about Fight Club.

Most people have seen the movie Fight Club starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, even those who haven’t have probably heard of it. The fact is that this fantastic movie is based around an equally fantastic book of the same name.

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk relates to my portfolio’s theme of leaving useless mateiral possessions behind in order to live life through experiences and not souvenirs. It establishes a story by showing the reader that being in a consumer society is not worth it, you stop experiencing new things, you look forward to meaningless purchases, you neglect the fact that life is short and that it must be lived to the fullest.

Tyler Durden: Do you know what a duvet is?
Narrator: It’s a comforter…
Tyler Durden: It’s a blanket. Just a blanket. Now why do guys like you and me know what a duvet is? Is this essential to our survival, in the hunter-gatherer sense of the word? No. What are we then?
Narrator: …Consumers?
Tyler Durden: Right. We are consumers. We’re the bi-products of a lifestyle obsession.

It’s a novel that, while quite violent and graphic has some very good life lessons and leaves the reader feeling much more informed, a definite read, I can’t wait to start Fight Club!
