Data visualisation is worth more than a thousand words. In an overload of data it becomes increasingly more important to find that one insight to help us further: how to make a business grow, detect fraud, catch a terrorist.

Our brains are experts in understanding visualisations and in assessing information. Furthermore you will learn to tell your story based on data in a convincing way.

  • best practices in data visualisation: checklist of useful hints

The internet offers endless possibilities to present yourself to the world. Social networks cover a part, but a personal website sometimes is more appropriate. But what technology should you use for setting up a website? Dealing with databases and server-side scripting can be daunting and is often overkill.

In this workshop we look at GitHub Pages, a content management platform, based on the Git version control system. After introducing the conceptual building blocks, we will create our own website.

You will build your own website, so make sure to bring your own laptop (and power supply). Come prepared and think about what content you would like to publish, writing it down in a text file, ready to be pasted into your new online presence. Maybe also bring a picture of yourself.

This AFT workshop will provide a practical introduction into both R and Python for Data Science. After going over the basics, we’ll venture into a case study, where we’ll go through the typical data analysis process.

You’ll code things yourself, starting from importing data to cleaning data over building models, to finally visualizing and reporting your findings

If you already want to give R and Python a try, you can head over to DataCamp’s free online introductory courses at www.datacamp.com.
