I can’t respond to somebody who disagrees (or even agrees) with me in a thoughtful or productive way unless I really hear and understand what they are saying first.

Bless you. Because that is the corollary to “shut up.” I know too many advocates who just want to pontificate without interruption from the audience. This won’t work without two way communication. Maybe I’ll write that one up this weekend. But first, finishing up family law reform commentary with a ‘high level advocates are reading the data but not listening to the people’ angle. This has so been the theme of my week.
