You Are Your Greatest Experiment

I’ve experimented with the training of every client I’ve ever had, and I’ve always encouraged clients to experiment themselves.

The “truth” of what works for you is axiomatic, meaning it should be SELF EVIDENT. Your feedback from your body is not subjective, but objective. It will tell you what works and what does not.

The concept of axiomatic truth can be discomforting for people. Far too often, we rely on authority figures to determine what we can and cannot do, or should or should not do.

I don’t endorse authority figures. Same way I don’t endorse gurus. Nobody has the all the “answers”, nor does health even work that way in the first place.

When I train people, I do what works. What is works better is explored to its end point. What works not as well is less likely to be used.

Assume all things to be 50/50 whenever you try them. This removes the anxiety of expectations. Testing and assessment are part of the process. They DRIVE the process as much as the results do.

My attachment to what I do goes on as far as the last time I used it. My relative body of knowledge is a work in progress. I will drop something in a second if I find something that works better.

Study what people do on the basis of the results they deliver. Results should always be self evident.

Apply Ocams razor-What is simple is most likely what is true. Complicated solutions that deliver results that are no better than more simple solutions are probably not worth your time.

The body existed before “clinical” was a word. Before the scientific method was ever formalized, people observed the patterns of action/reaction, and created systems of training and ways of eating that were battle tested (literally) and used for thousands of years.

Where there are patterns across time, that is where the principles exist.

Principles are applied truths.

Principles are what you should care about. Specifics are relative to the situation, do not get trapped by specificity.

If something works, it will be apparent that it works. The specificity of mechanisms of HOW it works can be determined later. Maybe they’ll be known, maybe not. Maybe they’ll be argued about.

It doesn’t really matter, so long as it working for yourself.

What you want is evidence of outcome. If there is no evidence of outcome, then be doubtful of evidence of application.

If any of the above stops working, then change to something that works better.

I think it works pretty well.

Your health is both outcome and experiment. Respect that fact, and make the best of it that you can. Only you truly know what is best for you.
