Study Buddy
The stress burden on the average college student is endless. There are large hurdles to be overtaken during the transition from high school to college. The pressure to make new friends and form new bonds is high. Other students stray from the social path and strive towards academics. Some students will do anything to be on the dean’s list, whether it be cheating, or drugs to reduce stress, or something of the like. The amount of time spent on studying and doing great loads of homework can really wear some students down. Prescription drugs such as Adderall are easily available in a campus environment and one of the most common drugs used amongst college students.
The drug of choice for most physicians attending to patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder or ADHD, a disorder which makes focusing very difficult. With that being said, this is why Adderall is so infamous for being college student’s drug of choice for helping them focus on the long hard nights of writing essays and cramming for a test. There are many ingredients that combine to make the drug that helps us college kids focus so well. The key components of Adderall are amphetamine and dextromphetamine, central nervous system stimulants that affect chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.
Although this drug helps student’s, it is also highly addictive, much like cocaine. Addiction is when someone takes a substance and it has a pleasurable effect in which the user continues to take that substance to achieve the same effect and feels the need to continue in order to function. With Adderall, student’s will feel the need to take this to stay focused and get their homework done. Cocaine has the similar negative effects as Adderall, such as anxiety, restlessness, and a racing heartbeat. These negative effects can truly change how the brain should normally function.
In my pictures, I am going to show how this drug effects a college student and show reasons why they choose to take Adderall. The pictures will show angles as if you were just another student doing your work and how you would probably never realize that the person right in front of you is addicted to Adderall. Adolescents ranging from the ages 18 to 22 who are enrolled as full-time college students are more likely to use and take advantage of this drug. My goal is to have the captions make the audience see things form a different stand point and to have them try to put themselves in their shoes but also see how it is negatively affecting these young lives.
This picture was taken at Alkek and was not staged. I wanted to capture the real expression of a stressed student and what it looks like to others.
I choose to take this picture at an upper angle to show how overwhelming homework can be when teachers start to assign them all at once.
This picture shows how easy it is to get distracted not only with your phone, but laptop too. All but another reason students look to Adderall for help.
This picture portrays how once you start its very hard to stop, and these are 2 different substances but you would never know.
This was taken at a higher angle to help the viewer understand how the Adderall is helping this student focus.
The point of this was to displey how your emotions are non-exsistant and how drugs can affect how you express your feelings.
I used the caption this way and angle because, I feel as if it looks like he is in a deep thought and the caption to explain how although he is done with his work and life continues, he is still in his concentrated trance.
I used this caption because at the end of this hard long night on staying up for hours, the drug has worn off and now the student is completly out of energy.
