It’s been a busy month! Over the past few weeks we took the learnings from the engineering test unit of AMP and integrated them into our latest mechanical design. If you haven’t read last month’s post about our engineering test unit, check it out here. This testing allowed us to identify the modifications we needed to make AMP mass production ready.

The next step for us is EVT 1 (Engineering Validation Test). We will be building a set of test units which will allow us to do a final mechanical and electrical system validation before factory production and testing. This step is critical so we can ensure your AMP is of the highest quality and plays music and phone calls beautifully every time. These units are one step closer to looking like the product we’ll be shipping later this Fall. Below is a shot of the non-electrical parts that make up AMP.

We’re also excited to share the battery indicator design on the back of AMP. Pressing the battery button will allow you to check AMP’s battery level and will enable you to boost your iPhone’s battery by up to 25%.

We also wanted to show you some of the components that are going into AMP. Below you can see our battery, microphones, and speakers. Also pictured below is one of the two flex circuit boards (the thin yellow object) that attaches our speakers to the main PCB (printed circuit board).

As you may have noticed, that’s a 4th speaker! As we were designing the upper portion of AMP for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, we were able to take advantage of the extra width to add an additional speaker. This means AMP for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will have additional volume but more importantly, it allows us to increase the audio bandwidth so you’ll get an even richer, warmer sound.

Over the next few weeks we will be assembling and testing our EVT 1 units. Stay tuned to our blog as we’ll be posting details of the build results. As always, we want to thank you for being great supporters. You rock!

Sincerely,
