Introducing APANO’s Medium Account!

For the last year, APANO has repeatedly asked itself: “How do we adequately respond to this political moment? What does it take to resist hate, bigotry, and injustice right now?

We strongly believe that it is more important than ever to amplify and lift up the voices of Asian and Pacific Islanders (APIs) to expose how elections, policy, and cultural attitudes tangibly impact people’s lives. In the month after #45’s election, there were more than 1,000 documented hate crimes against people of color. The actions that we take to advance social justice and protect our communities must be bold, radical, and agitational in the face of our current political realities. We believe that sharing our stories is a vital part of our resistance.

NEXT STEPS: We send a call out to writers who identify as API and who value the importance of community and identity like we do. We hope to provide a digital platform — in partnership with existing platforms like asianamericanwriting.com and Whitenoise Project — for individual APANO member voices to challenge dominant narrative and add our unique API voices into public discussion about issues and ideas that are important to our lives.
