Getting started with Mozilla and rust

12 agust 2017 we had an wonderful introductory event to Mozilla along with rust –lang in Department of ICT,MBSTU organized and hosted by Asma Islam Swapna , who is a Representative of Mozilla and our respected senior of the department . We also had Dr. Sajjad Waheed sir from Department of ICT,MBSTU ; Dr. Mamun — or- Rashid sir from Department of CSE, DU as guest speakers motivating us for open source contribution and shared their experiences with open source contribution and their views on modern technology and how technology has changed through time and how we can make it even better .

On the first half of the event we got introduced to Mozilla community, got to know about manifesto of the community , the community standards and what it`s like to be a Mozillian and how Mozilla community is working to make the web safer and a much better place and is fighting for our rights on the web . I really liked the saying “ Once a Mozillian always a Mozillian ” , and hope to be a official Mozillian soon .

After that we were introduced to rust . We came to know about its features and application of rust and why we needed it I found its memory management features quite impressive . As it was lunch time the rest of the session was carried out after lunch , I must say the food was pretty good .
After lunch our journey continued with rust , we started by setting up rust and got familiar with the syntax then we got out hands dirty with coding and built a cool guessing game . As it was our first time coding in rust it took a while to get everything right it felt great when it finally worked .
there was a QA session in the end where we had discussions about rusts efficiency and its possibilities on the field of competitive programming .We really enjoyed the event and learnt a lot , and are eagerly waiting for a workshop on rust .

As a IT student I can say that contributing to open source is a great way to learn and enhance ones skills , starting open source contribution with Mozilla is a great way to get started .
