I went through a phase where I was obsessed with Talking Heads, me owning this album is the result of said moment in time.

The year is 1973 and David Byrne and Chris Frantz form a band at RISD. This was not Talking Heads, but rather the Artistics. In 1977 now with Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison, the quartet took on the official moniker while all residing in New York City. Their debut album received widespread acclaim and sold well due to the single “Psycho Killer.” The band would release two more albums until they began working on 1980’s Remain In Light. Their third collaboration with Brian Eno, the band sought to incorporate more disparate influences and reduce their reliance on frontman Byrne. The result is an African funk fusion experimental album which is considered the band’s magnum opus. The album peaked at no. 87 on the Billboard charts and is certified Gold.

I don’t have much to say about this record, I’m a poser. I bought it for “Once In A Lifetime.” The rest of the album is very clear in its competency and unique in its experimentation, but this was also the first time I listened to it, I think I would need to force myself to listen more to get anything out of this.

Must Listen To: Once In A Lifetime

I listened to this song ad nauseum when I moved away for grad school, it brings me right back to those rare Syracuse summer days.
