I don’t have any data to go off or anything like that (and I don’t know whether data to this effect would even exist), but is it possible that studs who would have the ability to succeed at all facets of catching are just being moved earlier? Instead of starting a Joe Mauer behind the plate and moving him after several seasons, are clubs deciding to get more value out of that player via more games and ABs throughout their career?
