Women’s oppression transcends capitalism but has a particular character under it. It has to do with the political/social colonization of women’s bodies for the purpose of uncompensated social reproduction. Control of reproductive functions is obviously central to that. There are men, non-binary, and genderqueer people who can reproduce as well, and the core of their oppression is an attempt to force them back into the social categories of colonization established by patriarchy, i.e. the gender binary.

The so-called Religious Right has been the primary organizing movement of the most reactionary elements of the…

As talk of the 2020 elections becomes inescapable, many self-declared socialists have been captivated by the glitz and glamour of the Democratic Primaries. Once again, a looming battle between a “corporate Democrat” and a “democratic socialist” holds their rapt attention. As in 2016, they hope a grassroots movement for Bernie Sanders can strike a blow against the “establishment.”

What has changed is their level of organization: the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), now boasting tens of thousands of members, has now formally endorsed Sanders’ campaign and will lend their numbers to door-knocking, phone-banking and…

The darling of academic leftists, Antonio Gramsci has been dismissed by many a serious organizer as a totem of reformism and navel gazing. His dense manuscripts collect dust on the lowest corner of the revolutionary’s bookshelf, and they can’t be bothered to decipher this esoteric drivel — after all, there’s work to be done. Struggle to be waged. Why get bogged down in the musings of a mascot for opportunism?

We find that this attitude is misguided. It’s true that academics with little to no interest in communism have claimed Gramsci as their own, cherry-picking pieces of his work for…

As the conflict in Venezuela develops, it is important for US leftists of various stripes to have a solid understanding of the context and stakes in this struggle. Western media, even sources considered “left-leaning” or especially fair are wildly biased on this topic, presenting a picture of Venezuela reminiscent of how right wing talk radio portrayed Obama or how Rachel Maddow talks about Trump — only worse.

The Austin Revolutionary Organizing Collective (AROC) unreservedly opposes all aspects of US imperialism, and we want to help rectify the confusion imperialist media have sown by giving you an independent outline of the…

Over the weekend of November 30th, more than twenty revolutionary organizations from across the United States came together in Colorado Springs to unite under the banner of the Marxist Center. This put a new layer of formality onto what has been until now an informal, if still robust community of communist organizers active on social media and in their local formations. …

Towards the end of 2017 Austin Socialist Collective (ASC) found itself on the brink of dissolution. Recognizing the need for our continued work, committed members began a process of self-examination, and now self-criticism and rectification. We have written this summation in order to help identify our errors — as well as our successes — so that others may learn from them and help to build a revolution that can end capitalism in our lifetimes.

The document will consist of a narrative history of the organization, followed by elaboration on several key errors made…
