Those are the methods I use too, Rod. The creative process offers us a generous selections of options to get the story down. In my early writing years, I considered myself a pantser and was quite proud of it. But personally, pantsing didn’t get me so far. In fact, I finished my first novel after I started planning. All three novels I finished were planned and outlined and this helped me a lot in the creative process. Outline is holy to me, even if I am convinced that to generate a good first draft, we need to find the right balance between planning and pantsing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and happy writing.
