Your conclusion is correct. The balance is what we have to long for, but I’m adding that the process to reach that balance is to first satisfy ourselves with our writing and then, during the editing process, adjust to the reader’s eye and sensibility; in one word, trend. But our first draft is ours alone. So we have to jot it down with the sole purpose of entertaining ourselves and when we are done, if we have done a good job in entertaining ourselves, there is no need to change much in order to please an audience, because when ideas flow, they are aimed in the right direction.
