Diane, great discussion and I could not agree more. Just about every technology that Gene Roddenberry posited in Star Trek is in existence today (e.g., communicator -> cellphone, transporter-> 3D printing, etc.). Was this because he guessed right, or because he was an artist that inspired a generation of future engineers and scientists? To me, the bottom line is that fiction has a place. Maybe a movie and television show survey is next?
