The Mayan Calendaring System and The Gene Keys
“Walk on a tiger’s tail without being eaten, and you penetrate everywhere” — Dream Key #10
The Mayans weren’t so much interested in booking their next dentist appointment as tuning into the universal rhythms of Life. For example, the moon goes around the earth 13 times in a solar year. Humans have 20 digits (fingers and toes).
The Mayans were exceptional timekeepers and have gifted forward into the future some exuisite tools for tuning into nature. To say the Mayans had an amazing calendar is both an understatement and a little bit of a misnomer: they had 16–17 calenders they used in ritual life.

The Tzolk’in (or “Sacred Round”) is a 260-day cycle that roughly matches up with the human gestation period (the time you spend in the womb). It’s based on the unique timing frequence of 13:20.
We count to the number 10 and take that for granted. The Mayans counted to the number 20. When you take the number 13 and multiply it by the number 20, you get 260 unique energy patterns. This is the Tzolk’in in a nutshell. It’s basically a 13 x 20 energy grid or Matrix. Every day represents a new energy pattern.
Kind of fun, I know.
Well, strap on to your seat belts because this is about to get... mathematical.
When you take the Tzolk’in and mash it up with a “normal” 365-day calendar (like the Julian or the Gregorian) it takes 52 years before you have a repetitive energy/day. For this reason, the Mayans looked at a person’s 52nd birthday as being particularly auspicious. Notice that the number 52 is the same as the number of weeks we have in a year. And a week is a cycle of SEVEN.
More cycles! And fractal cyles at that.
Fun game: How many seasons are there in a year? Well, duh. FOUR.
Well, then: How many weeks are there in a season? Ummm.(Takes out a calculator.) THIRTEEN!
Now, this: What’s the sacred relationship between the numbers FOUR, SEVEN, & THIRTEEN?
Scratches head.
Write this down, because it holds an unbelievable secret to the Universe.
Drumroll, please.
4:7 as 7:13. (FOUR is to SEVEN as SEVEN is to THIRTEEN).
Basically, 4 is in the middle of 7. There are 3 numbers on either side. And 7 is in the middle of the number 13 (There are 6 numbers on either side).
Time has a heart. And everything radiates outwards from that heart into Creation.
Let me come at this from another way.
Close you’re eyes.
Let your attention rest as the thoughts in your mind begin to flow past THE SEAT OF YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS like water moving down a stream.
See if you can let your attention fall into the space in between where your mind is thinking and your actual PRESENCE resides.

(BOOM! Enlightenment... Or maybe not?)
Congratulations. You just did the most advanced form of meditation known to man. It’s called the Dzogchen “Natural Mind Meditation”. (I haven’t mastered it either yet so don’t worry.)
The point is that the universe has a natural timing frequency, a sacred rhythm. The more we practice aligning our minds and our hearts to this rhythm the more we can surrender into the Cosmic flow of Badass-ness inherent to our own being.
The Good news?
Many, many geniuses have come before us and provided us clues to better sync up to the beautiful Song of the universe.
Two such geniuses that I’d like to give a shout-out to are Jose Arguelles and Richard Rudd.
Jose created the 13-moon Dreamspell system (based off of the Mayan calendar) that I plan to follow as I write these blog posts. It’s actually not a calendar so much as a tuning fork: a tool meant to inspire PEACE, HARMONY and SYNCHRONICITY.
Think of it as the Mayan Calendar 2.0.
Meanwhile, Richard Rudd is the creator of the Gene Keys system. What is the Gene Keys? It’s an unbelievably beautiful take on the ancient I-Ching divination tool that has been used for thousands of years (originating in China). Nobody knows who wrote the original book (called the Book of Changes) or came up with the 64-hexagrams that form the base of the divination system. But Richard Rudd has developed a modern contemplative approach to understanding the grandeur and majesty of this ancient system AND correlated this system to our biological DNA.
Sound far out? It’s even crazier then you think.
I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
It’s only gonna take me… 1 year.
Here’s how it’s gonna work: every 4 days I’m going to publish a new article on a different Sacred theme. My goal is to mash-up the Dreamspell calender of Jose Arguelles with the I-Ching 2.0 divination system of the Gene Keys.
(Hence the name of my blog: DREAM KEYS.)
Wow, that took a really long time to explain. Sorry.
I’ll leave you with this cool coincidence. This year in the Dreamspell calendar is the year of the Yellow Crystal Seed (#64). This is the same number of Codons in our DNA (you know, the stuff that programs our entire genetic make-up) AND it’s the same number of hexagrams in the original I-Ching. Hence, the inspiration for the 91 crystal seeds of intention that will unfold over the following 364 days.
Much Love,
AK
