How my college grades went from 7.7 per semester to 9.5+

I would request you to read this article whole to understand it well.

Just before I explain anything, my grades along my semesters are:

  1. 7.25
  2. 7.727
  3. 8.5
  4. 7.9
  5. 9.5
  6. 9.667
  7. 9.73
  8. 9.77

I am an engineering undergrad (B.Tech.) from IIT Delhi. Relative grading works here generally. In relative grading, the class median is used to find the grades and grade boundaries are set by Professors either by intuition/experience or some mathematical means like standard deviation.

My first 3 semesters were online due to Covid (I am from 2020 entry batch). The 4th semester had online classes but offline exams to prevent online cheating.

Semester 1:
I was happy after clearing JEE and that somewhat restricted me from working hard. I did not pay much attention to classes and my only concern would be assignments. I would not talk to a lot of people for academics and would only talk about other stuff. I was slacking and obviously, I got my lowest grade yet: 7.25.

I was really disappointed by myself since some of my friends scored 8 or even…
