UX Design for Mobile: Bottom Navigation
Nick Babich

Big fan of the bottom nav. Giving full transparency to the user in regards to key areas is particularly useful.

However I’ve encountered one major problem…

In the app we are working on, it would be really nice on mobile if the user could go to a contact or group and see exactly what they can do. This could be chat, call, share files etc.

The problem exists if the chat is accessed directly from the bottom nav, as the user would expect to see the chat input where the bottom nav is located.

Can you see how a direct chat window could be accessed by bottom nav and still work as it should?
