Gary Johnson seems to be gaining some ground politically, and may appear on the debate with Clinton…

If by “interesting” you mean “frightening” then yes I guess it will. Here’s the problem with independents: they take from the middle. Right now, it looks like there are more disaffected Dems in the middle than disaffected GOPers. That means Johnson will weaken the Democratic ticket, thus increasing Trump’s chances. And make no mistake: there is no scenario in which Johnson can win.

Here in Canada, we have a three/four party system. When it came time to vote in our last election, there was a strong desire to vote the incumbent Prime Minister out. But when you have two other competitors, there is a high risk of splitting the vote between them thus ensuring a victory for the incumbent.

So we did what American voters should do: we voted strategically. It meant that many who would have normally voted their conscience instead votes for the lesser of two evils (as they saw it) so that at least the incumbent wouldn’t stay in power.

It’s not ideal, and I’m sure there are many who aren’t content with our new leader, but given his strong approval rating, it’s clear that most feel they made the right choice.

All this to say, if a Trump presidency scares you, why risk it becoming a reality? In fact, if Johnson doesn’t want to see Trump in power, the only responsible thing for him to do is drop out and endorse Hillary.
