You’re not creative? Bollocks.

“I’m not creative” — I’ve heard that a few times in conversations over the years.

Invariably shortly followed by a piece of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

In a meeting this week I heard it, only for about 4 minutes 10 seconds (specific time inserted for added gravitas) later, to start hearing ideas of how to structure a new take on social media interaction (I won’t give away your idea Dave).

A while back on a walk with a friend I hear it, only for him to shortly after (we’d had a couple of beers so a specific time window simply wouldn’t be believable), only for him to explain a couple of ideas he’d had for new apps to simplify life (I’ll keep these hush too Bruce).

If you’ve ever had a problem where you’ve had to think about an alternative approach to get a solution, chances are you’ve been creative. My mum uses keyring rings when the cupboard handles fall off, and implements other such home hacks (nobody is judging you mum) with arbitrary stuff found in the drawers.

I know guys who introduced a flow line that streamlined a production process that saved half a million — more creativity.

My martial arts teacher creates analogies & metaphors for people young & old to understand positioning, techniques and flow — Elvis, alien feet, teapots — many more.

There’s creativity everywhere, it’s not just exclusive to the arts. It’s in us all, and around us all. You’ve just got to look for it.
