On Dec. 22, 2015, Adelanto turns 45. The city was incorporated in 1970 when its population was little over 2,000. Today, it has blossomed to almost 35,000 residents and continues to grow with new homes and new businesses.

Due to the holidays, the Adelanto City Council celebrated the city’s birthday a little early. Residents packed the council chambers to join the festivities. Rebecca Tennison from Senator Sharon Runner’s office was on hand as was an aide from Assemblyman Jay Obernolte’s office. Hesperia Mayor Bill Holland, Mayor pro tem Paul Russ, and Councilman Eric Schmidt also made appearances to congratulate city officials on the milestone.

But that was not the only excitement at the Dec. 9 meeting. Twenty-four very lucky Adelanto School District students were given new bicycles for Christmas. The giveaway was sponsored by local businesses including the GEO Group, which operates private prisons in the city, and Buck Johns’ Inland Energy, Inc. Without the generous donors, the bicycle giveaway would not have been possible.
