Happy World Mental Health Day

Our mental health is just as important as our physical health.

First I’d like to say “happy world mental health day”. And 2nd I wanna start talking about my OFFICIAL diagnosis stating that I’m suffering from depression. Told from my paediatrician last Tuesday night and was given an action plan of going further beyond the diagnosis.

Prescribed me two unknown antidepressants (which he had planned to send the prescription to the pharmacy) and also to hold onto the prescription my family doctor has already prescribed me for “Cipralex” just in case if the first two trials (lasting 6 weeks each) don’t work out.

I have officially started on the first antidepressant trial as of last Friday night. Didn’t want to take it Thursday night and feel drowsy while working with machines at my job as a temp the next morning.

I do have my friend Tracey who’s suffered with depression, self harmed, attempted suicide 10 times and also has seizures (which she has a seizure response dog for) and my younger sister’s best friend Kelly and her two other friends, Jenna & Mae who all suffered and still are dealing with depression too. In which also take different antidepressant meds.

These are the only ones that I know that I’m closest to that have the same condition as me other than those I communicate with online (Twitter, Tumblr & Happier). Other than a friend from both church and who I used to work at Fraser Direct, Michelle who has schizophrenia.

Overall mental health can impact one’s life, not everyone that isn’t affected by this epidemic, takes their own emotions, and overall positive and healthy mental health seriously enough and instead takes it for granted. Not knowing millions who don’t have postive mental health and suffer and live with their mental health conditions and wish they could be happy and not be in such a hole that they are in with their illness.

We need to stop taking these kinds of issues and things for granted. Not just having an education, clean, fresh water, food, money, many expensive clothing and shoes, hygiene products, and so on. But also having healthy and positive mental health. Not just our physical health (including our dental checkups, etc) but our mental health too. The mental health epidemic is just as important as all the other epidemics out there. And overall, mental health is just as important as our physical health too.

Yes, we have accomplished some sort of achievement with breaking the stigma around the mental illness epidemic. The society isn’t viewing depression and anxiety disorders as taboo but views others like schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and the rest of them as taboo. We still have a long way to go.

Let’s all do our equal part in breaking the stigma and discrimination around this tragic epidemic and do all that we can to give everyone that deserves what they need and deserve in our society and reality.

Take care of yourself (take a break once in a while, to prevent burnout), meditate, breathe, treat yourself every little while, journal, read, educate yourselves on your own mental health conditions and overall the epidemic itself, work on loving yourself (that’s part of being confident like Demi Lovato and helps by contributing healthy results with treating others the way they all truly deserve to be treated), help others you associate with and those who you love that suffer/live with mental illness.

Having role models in our world is so important to have with the pressures of life given from society and overall how hard life truly is. I look up to Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Dove Cameron, Craig & Marc Kielburger along with all the other celebs and those being part of their movement and organization that used to be called. “Free The Children” and is now called “We”.

Looking up to these ‘real’ people are really more than just great human beings to look up to. We all get hate around the world in person and online no matter who you are, but having role models helps millions of us cope with all the hate, issues, and all life’s situations in inspiring ways through speeches, real examples, proof, movies, music, tv shows and so much more. Technology may seem like it’s going too far in depth with so many businesses using it for their own ethical and business reasons being a positive benefit. But others seem to view technology as the “digital generation” who many are addicted and using it for almost everything and believing that it has gone out of control. But no matter how powerful something is, there’s always hope for things to get better and to gain the right, healthy and positive amount of self control. Working one step, one day, one individual at a time.

One thing I’ve been choosing with every decision I make is considering my mental health. If something puts my mental health at risk, (negative risk) then I’m not gonna consider it. But if something promotes positive mental health and doesn’t put my mental health at risk in a negative way, then I’ll without a doubt, consider it. And I truly believe and encourage everyone else to do the same.

Being part of organizations, charities, events, and contributing our part in all the world’s epidemics and issues is crucially important and I believe this gives someone real purpose and meaning for themselves and their life.
