I would argue the “swamp” isn’t the two political parties but rather that if the two political parties hold different parts of the Federal Government, nothing gets done, kind of like moving through a swamp on your own feet.

And to be honest, in most years, I think that’s what the American people wanted for the most part. And that’s something that stock bettors on Wall Street want as well. A government that is inactive is not like to work against them. But when Trump hijacked the Republican primaries, he did so behind a Tea party-ish base that overwhelmed the Republican establishment and candidates like Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio didn’t know what hit them. Sometimes the swamp needs to be drained, and sometimes the swamp needs to be refilled. It’s just the nature of a republic style of democracy, a system that is designed to be more lethargic & deliberate than swift & decisive.

I think there is a true danger of a President who doesn’t really care about anything beyond his own pet projects and things that he says or does to keep this everyone else focused on him and his gilded aura. And while I don’t mind that the President is more or less outsourcing his choices of whom he wants for federal judges, this sense that he’s really not caring about it or has a sense that his Presidency is on the line when Brett Kavanaugh is nominated for him probably makes it feel like these are like mafia picks, giving these people an offer they can’t refuse. And very few people would like that, but they don’t notice that. (At least for now.)

I worry when it comes to a point where the Swamp won’t or can’t make a decision for him, and President Trump has to make one himself. Or rather, when Trump makes a decision without consulting the Swamp, which has happened as well, especially in the intelligence community. This President is as laissez faire as one can be. And I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
