The American Constitution is devised so that the legislature changes every two years, and the executive changes every four years. This is a “mid-term” election; meaning Trump can’t be voted out of office. I wouldn’t call the 2018 election the “last chance to reject fascism and authoritarianism,” that is 2020 when Trump seeks a second term. At best, if the projections are correct, there might be enough changes in the legislature so that nothing Trump will want to accomplish will get done via the legislature. Which is fine for Trump, he’s doing most of his work via the fiat that is the executive order anyway. The part that he has to get through the Senate, the approving of new members of the Judiciary Branch, that’s expected to have no change in power.
As long as the economic improves by all the metrics they use (and not by yours), the American people will (more likely than not) not care about his Fascist designs and re-elect him for a second term. Take it for what you will.
