China is banning The PANAMA PAPERS, and we are not so surprised about it.
Panama Papers’ great leak? Sorry, 404 The Page Not Found.
Everything sensitive and anything that concerns a negative image of our presidents are usually doomed to be wipped out from Chinese internet, and Panama Papers, with four of Chinese current and former govenment leaders on it, is no exception. No matter how historical this moment is, as claimed by various source (“The biggest leak in history” — by Metro,”The biggest ever data leaks” — by The Guardian), you can’t find any trace in almost any Mandarin News Outlet or national paper.
Social media is also no safe ground for free speech. On the Wechat, a social app run by the company Tecent (the most valuable company, Chinese internet giant), the company I worked for tried to publish an online copy of the Panama Papers, heading “The biggest scandal! List of World leaders involving tax avoiding, money shuffling Exposed!” was failed to be published, as the article “violated relevant regulation”.

It is not the only one. Other Wechat users tried to link the external page such as The Guardian was also banned. The pages were blocked, thanks to our great “Internet Green Ban” system.

Even Tecent’s own News site failed to deliever the story.

Well, we are not so surprised about it. China has an extremely careful attitude toward the western media. Especially this one contains explicit information about how the Chinese current presient might be involving in unspeakable money shuffling.
I guess our ruling party believe that innocence is a blessing. It protects your people from the great scandal that the whole world is talking about, to keep them pure and purified, to protect them from the ill ideology (such as freedom of speech and transparent government).
Although in the world when China is gradually regarded as the rising empire of the world, our country is still one of the few countries in the world that still bans Facebook.
