You’ve written a couple articles that present a straw man representation of libertarian thought by…

Straw-manning is what right-wing libertarians do when they talk of non-libertarians and the government. They literally call the government evil, democracy tyranny, and lump people outside their circle as their “enemies” calling them statists, leftists, socialists, communists, what-have-you. Anyone who does not agree with or even care for the libertarian-right’s cause gets shoved into the enemy category and is summarily treated as such.

Reading into motives that are not really there, eh? Reason published another article after the one by Kroy laying bear their motives to the densest of their readers prescribing “political cross-dressing” for specifically deceiving people into becoming converts. As if this was not obvious enough for you, the title of the article is “How To Get Converts Left&Right.” It is quite telling that Reason has to literally phone it in for their readers to get the message. Wasn’t David Koch running for vice-president in the Libertarian Party in 1980? I bet this was a clever strategy to trick people into voting Libertarian. Reason was and is, after all, funded partly by Koch institutions, and David Koch is a Reason trustee.

“Man is born an asocial and antisocial being. The newborn child is a savage. Egoism is his nature. Only the experience of life and the teachings of his parents, his brothers, sisters, playmates, and later of other people FORCE HIM to acknowledge the advantages of social cooperation and accordingly to change his behavior.” ~Ludwig Von Mises, Omnipotent Government, p. 241

Followers of Mises et al. cannot believe in the above and SELL their “ideology” to those who know better without the effort of lying and deceiving their marks.

The “techniques” outlined in Reason’s articles were used to get the Left in bed with libertarians over the TSA back in 2010.

[T]he hysteria over the TSA “Gestapo” was relentless, generated by the same libertarian-right front groups out of DC that are leading the rally — the same lobbyists, the same assholes who “tricked” a good portion of the Left into agreeing with them that TSA airport gate security posed the greatest threat to our civil liberties, our privacy, our Fourth Amendment rights — since the Revolution….
We now know what the angles were: The GOP and the libertarian lobby world planned to privatize the TSA entirely, abolish the agency and privatize the workforce before it succeeded in gaining union rights as a public sector union… with the ultimate goal of replacing the TSA with private contractors deploying “Israeli-style” racial profiling in our airports. —

The TSA was getting ready to unionize after a 10-year struggle. Conservatives were trying desperately from letting that happen, and we both know what the libertarian stance is on unions, now don’t we? It was the “single largest unionization drive in decades.” Of course, this did not mollify the GOP’s attempts to wipe out the TSA and privatize its functions.

Having effectively demonized TSA officers as “rapists” and “jackbooted””Nazis” running “porn scan machines” (those were the actual real talking points used), the libertarian/GOP right-wing created a favorable political atmosphere to carry out a full-bore privatization. Even though the libertarians and right-wingers pushing the anti-TSA crusade talked openly about replacing the agency with privately-run Israeli racial profiling, nevertheless the Left stayed on board and refused to get in the way, either out of sheer fecklessness, or cowardice — the fear of being shamed for appearing to support Police State “TSA” airport gate security. Yes, they really were that gullible.
Even that YouTube hero sensation John “Don’t Touch My Junk” Tyner turned out to be a fraud. Liberals and libertarians alike hailed Tyner as an American hero standing up to the Obama Administration’s Big Brother imperial machine…. Even as liberals and leftists rallied with their libertarian bedfellows behind a sentimental, idealized Tyner, the real John Tyner was busy tapping out insane radical-right political solutions on his blog — calling for firing the TSA’s pro-union workforce, privatizing the agency, and replacing it with private airport security contractors specializing in “Israeli-style” racial profiling. And the libertarians pushing that agenda almost made it happen — they went into the anti-TSA crusade with everything worked out in-advance: Who would benefit, who would be hurt, the larger politics, the interest groups, everything. The left skipped along in smug ignorance as their unwitting accomplices, and nearly let themselves be used as dupes to bust a union and introduce privatized racial profiling in our airports. —

The goal is getting converts through confusing language and trickery. Right-wing libertarians cannot present their ideas honestly in a debate. No, they need all the guile of a used car salesman and spin-doctor to get even one “convert.” I prefer honesty over the marketer’s craft manipulating hearts and minds to sell products nobody needs. You see. I have good reason to be more than suspicious of right-wing libertarians. No doubt, though, you will continue to prove to me just exactly how many devils can dance on the head of a pin.
