Dentistry: Halitosis & Treatment

Halitosis and its treatment

Best ways to take care of your teeth

The most common dental problems are tooth decay, gum diseases and bad breath. Right from the childhood dental care should start. As soon as a child starts developing teeth and is in a position to brush, he/she should be taught how to brush gently. As they grow they start brushing using toothpaste and adults need to teach them the right method and process. Teeth when brushed for two minutes and all out stays healthy. The toothpaste should be fluoridated. Brushing twice daily is best for dental health.

However the tongue too contributes to poor oral hygiene. When we eat, the food touches our tongue and some of it remains. Use a tongue cleaner to flush stuffs that cause bad breath when allowed to remain. Use a medicated mouthwash to rinse the mouth after a meal.

There are several varieties of toothpaste and flosses. Choose one that has the recommended ingredients. Use floss gently. The mouthwash can be mint-flavored and used twice if possible.

Despite the best intentions, one may still end up with dental problems in the form of tooth decay, bad odor and gum disease since they are also hereditary.

Search for affordable dental care ( Ajax, Ontario) if you do not have insurance. If you have insurance check with the company to find out what your eligibilities are. Dental surgeries that do not require hospitalization may not be covered.

Through the internet look for a clinic that has a specialist well trained and qualified to serve your needs. In emergencies approach a clinic which is part of the network and is also near you.

One problem that many of us suffer from is halitosis. It is a mouth-related problem that results from poor oral hygiene.

Here are some ways to fight bad breath

1. Drink plenty of water and swish it in your mouth.

2. Brush after every meal and floss twice a day if possible.

3. If you wear dentures, remove them before going to sleep. Doing so prevents buildup of bacteria and germs in it.

4. Scrape the tongue after every meal.

5. Replace the toothbrush every three to four months.

Chronic halitosis may be more serious than what brushing and flossing can handle. Halitosis may not cause any several health problems but it may affect personal and social relationships. It is a little difficult since it is not possible for someone to pick up his own scent. Sometimes, family members, colleagues or friends may not be comfortable telling you. The dentist is the right person to treat chronic halitosis and he uses a halimeter to determine.

The treatment depends on the underlying cause. The patient hence needs to be open with the dentist and share all information about any other health problems he may be suffering from. Some patients may also have a dry mouth which needs treatment. There commercial products available but visiting a dentist is the best way to treat halitosis.

Meanwhile, chew gums, lozenges and mint throughout the day.
