The reason why I make movies..
I was 6 years old when I came to know that theres a thing called ‘movies' in this world. Although I didn’t understand a single thing which was going on on this HUGE screen in front of me, ( I was more worried about my hunger) I saw the magic of this thing called ‘Cinema' for the first time.
As I grew older I saw that film again (which was HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM by the way) and I saw the impact it makes on people’s lives. And this magic which cinema creats got me hooked onto this thing.
I grew older and older and I started seeing people around me talking about movies and how they can change people’s lives. By the time I was 17 years old.. Movies, cinema, films became my passion or lets say obsession. I just wanted to watch great films thats it. I wanted to experience that feeling again and again which you get when you watch a story unfold in front of you..
And today after this wonderful childhood journey of films and ‘Bollywood’, I am a filmmaker.
I make films for the joy it gives me. Making movies for me is not just recording a thing on a fancy camera and showing it to people. Making movies for me is living other people’s lives.. We filmmakers build characters which give us a chance to live those lives.
And of course the smile which films bring to people’s faces is a priceless moment for any filmmaker. The joy you see on their faces when they come out of that dark room after two and a half hours is just incredible.
And you know.. This is the reason why I make films. I want to change people’s lives. I want to touch their hearts. I want to bring smile to their faces. I want a six year old kid to see my films and get inspired to make many more great films…
