What is Smart Object, How to create Smart Object, and How a smart object can be editable?
What is Smart Object?
Smart Objects are special properties of layers that contain and preserve all the data inside an Image. So that you can perform nondestructive editing in Photoshop.
What is Raster Object?
Raster objects are dataset that contains all the pixel data of image but it does not preserve the data, as a result, they are destructive in nature.
The layers in Photoshop which aren’t Smart Objects are Raster Objects.
You can refer to the above image where the Raster object lost its pixel data after scaling or modifying it, wherein Smart object all the data were preserved.
How to identify Smart Object?
The small icon present beside the layer panel’s preview bar represents a smart object.
And the layers which do not have an icon beside its preview then it represents Raster Object.
How to convert Raster object to Smart object and Vice versa?
- Convert Raser object to Smart object.
Right-click on the Rasterised layer and click Convert to Smart Object.
- Convert Smart object to Raster object.
Right-click on the Smart Object layer and click Rasterize layer.
