The Importance of Appreciation

Appreciation changes everything.
It is so much more than just icing on a cake.
It is far more than a technique taught by self-help gurus to get through the day.
No. Appreciation is a necessary habit for a happy life.
Without taking the time to appreciate who you are, what you have and how far you’ve come-how can you enjoy your life?
We are surrounded by discourses that tell us that we are not good enough. That there is always more to accomplish, new people to impress and bigger milestones to pass.
But really-why does it matter so much that we measure up against some hypothetical scale of success? Aren’t we all destined to end up in a coffin?
And so-if we’re all dying as I write this very blog post-isn’t it better to just give up trying to evaluate how successful we are and simply appreciate all that we have?
It’s a very simple yet incredibly important decision to make every single day-to either go on, micro-analyzing all the depictions of success we’ve come by and how our lives fit into them or, just to appreciate the life that we have.
And that, in my humble opinion, is the main difference between people who are happy and those who are not.
