Unfortunately like Warren Buffet most people invest in things they understand.
Understanding can come from some level of familiarity with a problem an entrepreneur is trying to solve, or ones ability to listen, learn, and leverage a non-biased analytical framework to make smart investment decisions.
I think a great number of mainstream investors are plagued by some combination of confirmation bias and intellectual laziness.
I commend you guys at village capital for employing an approach that leverages the knowledge base of cohorts that are in a good position to identify winners due to a greater level of familiarity and in many cases intimacy with the problems their colleagues are trying to solve.
The real challenge though is in identifying ways to overcome natural biases that stop us all from fully grasping how to listen, learn, and drive our analysis based on the right inputs.
