They weren’t as common as in the US. But they’re not particularly scarce, eiter before or after. The number of guns in private hands is higher today in Australia and Canada than it was 20 years ago.

The fact that the trends are identical despite totally different approaches to gun policy suggests that gun policy is an insignificant influencer of homicide rates.
