The girls care for their clothes, better than most adults I know. Their outfits are few, mostly donated, handed down and mended. As the clothes crisp in the afternoon sun, I tell the girls it reminds me of Tibetan prayer flags fluttering in the wind. They look at me, blank. I smile.
Laundry time can be just as sacred.
