This is a really excellent article that makes the case for communicating in Latin in terms that relate to what I presume to be the goals of every Latin program out there: to be able to read the language in a fluid and engaging manner. It’s also packed with subtle insight regarding current positions/debates in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theory, e.g. the emphasis on communicative interaction (a la Long’s Interactive Hypothesis) as opposed to oral drills/exercises. It’s well worth the thought and time of anyone interested in teaching Latin. Thanks to Justin and Eidolon for putting it together!
