I think people are ref. to “traveling in time” as Bran’s ability to see the past and the future. At least, that’s how I use it myself.
As for warging people in the past, I’m with you. I see no basis for that theory either in the books or in the show. He warged into Hodor while they were both in the cave AND in the past. Bran was blisfully “watching” his relatives while the WW came. Meera tried to wake him up saying: “Wake up Bran, we need Hodor. “ But Bran doesn’t respond at first. It’s only after Bloodraven tells him again: “Listen to your friends.” that he warg into Hodor, but at that point he was already in his “trip” and that’s why he was able to affect Willis. As you said, it wasn’t an intentional act. Some might say, it doesn’t matter whether it was intentional or not, he still was able to do it. Yeah, he did it but because he was able to warg into Hodor while physically they were both in the cave. We saw Hodor when Bran warged into him, and he started to fight the wights.
As for Bran being able to change the past. I do not agree with that either. It is stated in the books, and in the show, that “you can’t change the past”. Which frankly makes sense cause otherwise, we’re to believe that GRRM idea is that “oh yeah sure, if you’re a greenseer then you can change the past. Too easy and it goes against everything he’s been saying, about actions have conseguences (butterfly effects and all that).
What Bran can do is learn from the past and be able to anticipate future events, but not change the past.
I think the NK is a greenseer himself. That is why he was able to see Bran and force him back into his body, in the 5th episode. He is far more powerful than Bran right now. Which is understandable, since Bran “training” was interrupted, and he wasn’t ready yet when the Bloodraven was killed by the NK. He’s still figuring out things. I don’t kow if the NK is a Stark though, and what does that entail, if that’s the case.
Having said that, if my boy Bran can warg into the Ice Dragon, that would be cool. :)
