I think sequels to comedies are very difficult to execute, not many have faired well compared to the original, for example the Hangover sequels, Caddyshack II, every single Jim Carrey-less sequel, and so on and so forth. There are some exceptions, I didn’t dislike Ghostbusters II, and I eat up Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls(the only sequel Carrey reprised his role, prior to this film) and I adore it. In the case for Dumbe & Dumber To, it’s mediocre at best.

There were at least three or four good laughs in the film, but almost all the time, the humor feels very forced and there is no consistent comedic flow. Not many elements of surprise compared to the original because its basically recycled and rehashed. Again with the forced humor, I often say this in most of my reviews, I think subtly is the way to go. Jeff Daniels in an interview said that more is more, well I respectfully disagree. I’m believe in the less is more concept. When I watch the first film, I find it to be a lot more subtle in the humor, despite it being a little over the top, and I think this is what made the first Dumb & Dumber click.

If this film is successful, I hope the Farrelly Brothers just tone it down a little more and find new situations for these guys because I’m open for another chapter in Harry and Lloyd’s life.
