  1. Not sure if I stepped on dog poo en route to church this morning, but there was a yellowish brown smear on the tip of my shoe. I noticed a foul smell as I crossed my left ankle over my right knee as I sat in the pew. As I was deciding if it’d be sacrilegious to clean my shoe with the church carpet, I inadvertently smear some of the substance on the back of the pew in front of me. At this point, I figured I might as well wipe my shoe on the carpet also and seek forgiveness for defiling both.
  2. I got my ears pierced! C came with me. She is a veteran, having previously pierced her ears, cartilage, navel and tongue. The ears piercing associate at Claire Accessories asked if I would like to hold the Claire Bear. I did. C told me it would feel like nothing. I’d say it feels exactly like a bar of metal being shot through your ear. I’m glad we got it done at Claire’s instead of at the sketchy tattoo parlor we checked out first. There’s something comforting about being surrounded by glitter backpacks and unicorn accessories.
  3. My parents have friends over for a potluck. My mom invites me downstairs for a slice of mango cake. I come down midway through the happy birthday song. “Oh, whose birthday is it?” I ask. “No one,” an auntie replies. “We just sing the song.”
