Over the past few months, I’ve had a lot of people asking me how they can break into the AI space.

In my opinion, the best way to supercharge this process is by landing a job in AI.

But doing so is no easy task. That’s why I compiled all of my advice into one article.

Let’s dive in!

Why you should work in AI

Let’s start with a number: $407 billion. That’s the expected size of the AI market by 2027, growing from an estimated $86.9 billion in 2022. (1)

Now that’s a wave worth catching!

Being early to new tech adoption waves is akin to getting in on the ground floor of a skyscraper in the making. It’s not just about financial gain; it’s about being part of shaping the future.

AI is becoming a part of every business. An impressive 64% of businesses believe that AI will increase their overall productivity, with 25% adopting AI due to labor shortages. (2)

Even with concerns about AI causing job losses, many companies are recognizing the transformative potential of AI.

To put it simply, if you do not embrace AI you will be left behind.

The types of AI jobs

There’s not just one way to “work in AI”. Think of it as a choose-your-own-adventure book with five different paths.

Path 1: Work at an AI-focused startup, like OpenAI or Midjourney.

Path 2: Join a big tech company’s AI division. Nvidia or Microsoft, for example.

Path 3: Snag an AI role at any company. Maybe an ML engineer or prompt engineer.

Path 4: Create an AI role at your current company. Or implement AI into your company’s product or your own workflow.

Path 5: Launch your own AI startup or project.

No matter which path you choose, one thing is for certain: The industry’s looking for talent.
