The following article is a preview from my upcoming book ‘Modern College’

There is truly no other experience in the world like college, and that is largely because it can offer certain things that are difficult or nearly impossible to obtain outside of the system. It is important to start with the things that college is good for, because it is a solid litmus test for whether or not college is a requirement for you or not. I am going to make the argument that there are certain paths that cannot be reached without a college degree. This means that for some people, college is non-negotiable nowadays. Out of all of the things that college is good for, I think there are two main areas that can be marked as a need-to-haves, with the rest being nice-to-haves. I’ve listed these areas below & signified need-to-haves with a *:

● Fulfill professional requirements*

● Access to key resources*

● Establishing independence

● Expanding your network

● A forcing function for learning
