The Top 3 Reasons Why Women Should StrengthTrain!

Brooke Ence, Crossfit athlete

For some reason there is this preconceived idea that if women do any kind of strength & resistance training that they will become the hulk. So they should become a cardio bunny instead. This is mainly due to the bullshit media that has been fed to society with out any evidence to back it up. Which has led me to write this article.

Let’s get started.

1) More Effective Fat loss

Strength training isn’t just about popping out of your sleeves. It has been proven that it burns significantly more calories than cardiovascular training. After your strength training session, you continue to consume additional oxygen in hours or possibly days following. This is known as Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption or EPOC. When your body uses more oxygen, it requires more caloric expenditure, which will increase your metabolic rate.

2) Bone Health

As we get older we’re at risk of losing both muscle mass and bone density. Women who are Postmenopausal are at a much greater risk for Osteoporosis since the body no longer secretes estrogen. By incorporating strength training into your lifestyle you can combat the loss of bone density, loss of muscle mass and decrease your risk of Osteoporosis.

3) Increased Energy.

Now you may think that after a hard strength training session the last thing you’re going to be in energized. Yes, you’re going to be tired from the workout, as you should. BUT the hours after that you’ll begin to notice your energy levels are much higher then normal. This is due to the chemicals your brain releases. I feel that this is a huge benefit. The more energy you have the more likely you’re actually going to live life to the fullest and be completely happy. Ever noticed that people who are in great shape tend to always be happy and love life? Coincidence? I think not!
