Hey, Internet: Stop Trying To Inspire Me

You’re the best!

Those inspirational posts have always had the opposite effect on me. If I’m depressed, they serve to make me more depressed. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I love them. I read them, and smile, and ride a happy wave of unicorns and rainbows. But that only happens when I’m already on the happy train, when the inspiration resonates with what I’m already feeling. It doesn’t do jack when I’m down. It just sharpens the blade of my depression and keeps me down. And, like you mentioned in your post, I always felt ashamed for not being able to jump on the bandwagon when things got gloomy.

Thank you for showing me that it’s okay to be human. Thanks for taking away one of the weapons my mind likes to use against me. Like I said before, you’re the best!
