HOW TO CARE YOUR HAIR EXTENSION?

Hair extensions are very useful. They not only make your hair look long but also help you to look good. It can also be used to cover cuts, injuries, burns or bad color. Hair extensions are wonderful. Natural or synthetic hair extensions whatever it may be it is very important to take good care of them.

Many people complain about their hair extensions been damaged too early in terms of strength and shininess. Buying a high quality hair extension is only the first step but maintaining the same is totally a different process. Here I will be explaining some of the ways through which you can take good care of your hair extensions (Clip-In hair extension and Sew-In hair extension).

CARING FOR CLIP-IN HAIR EXTENSION

1. Take your extension out before going to bed, and brush it gently: It is recommended that you must remove the Clip-In hair extension before going to bed. As there are tiny combs or clips that are attached. It may dig into your scalp and hurt them. Also it is fragile in nature and may get damaged. Once removed gently brush the extension.

2. Wash the hair extension atleast once in a month with gentle shampoo and conditioner: Put the hair extension in the tub or sink and dampen it with lukewarm water. Apply shampoo to it gently and rub, wash away the lather and do the same with the conditioner. If you have a synthetic extension then use wig shampoo recommended for synthetic fibers. If you are using real hair extension wash it with smooth shampoo and conditioners.

3. Hang the hair extension to dry and do not brush when wet: Once washed do not try to brush or style them when they are wet! The fibers may frizz. After washing them hang it using the Pant hanger in a well ventilated place and let it dry from top to bottom.

4. Start combing the extensions from bottom: Always comb the extensions from bottom, never start combing directly from the top. Make sure that it is being dried properly before that. Use wide-toothed comb to do so.

5. Keep the extension moisturized: Make sure to keep your extensions moisturized by combing it with a little bit of leave-in conditioner evenly. Do it especially if you style your extensions more often.

6. Take care while heat styling your extension: It is very much recommended to avoid using heat styling on your extension like straightening, curling etc. Especially when you are using a synthetic hair extension. Because heat may damage the synthetic fibers. If it is a must to heat style them, then try doing it using heat resistant spray and lower temperature.

CARING FOR SEW-IN HAIR EXTENSIONS

1. Detangle your extension before washing it and going to bed: It is recommended to comb your hair using wide-toothed comb before washing it. Always start combing from the bottom and never start altogether from the roots.

2. Wash your extensions every other day: Lather you hair using gentle shampoo and was it every other day. Try not going or touching the sewn part and massage the hair in circular motion.

3. Applying the conditioners: You must take care while applying the hair conditioners. Try applying it just below the sewn part. If you apply to mush conditioner near the connecting nodes, your hair may fall out.

4. Dry your hair fully: Sew-In hair extensions are great to watch because double the hair quantity. But with this the time taken to dry the hair also gets doubled. Make sure that you dry the hair fully or there is possibility of hair loosening. If you using a hair dryer to dry your extension make sure that you spray a heat resistant over it first, as heat may damage the hair fibers.

6. Cover your hair while sleeping: Use hair cap while sleeping, this will protect the hair extension from getting frizzy or from getting tugged out.

These are some of the points that one should keep in mind and follow in order to protect the hair extensions from getting damaged. Thanks for reading through.
