I think you have to formalize it into it’s own course. Many professors would prefer to “teach it across the curriculum” so that no one gets stuck teaching everyone’s least favorite class. But that approach means no one is really accountable for it either.

My background is marketing and communications and there were no formal ethics courses in my undergrad and a 1 hr seminar that met once in grad school. My fellow graduates went into politics, marketing and advertising, and journalism, all careers where a little bit of ethics can go a long way.
