Your essay is a great example of “reading” political cartoons. I’m going to share it with my girls. I also noticed the fact that the Black Lives Matter sign is the most noticeable in the teach, while the Cop is the most notable of the figures presented, you see more of his body and more if his face. I don’t think these are accidents.
This says everything.
I grew up with Reagan as a governor. He destroyed California’s education funding and undercut equitable housing laws. 40 years later, our schools and neighborhoods are more segregated than before Brown vs. Board of Education. Californian is still reeling from his “leadership”.
The very fact you are advocating for a “color-blind” view of the world is itself the definition of whiteness. The fact that you feel entitled to tell a Black man how to view race is a product of your white privilege. Your response is so white in fact, there is a hashtag written about you, #notallwhitepeople.
