I e-mailed him a couple of days ago and requested him to have a one to one conversation with me, related to professional life. So, finally today I met him and spent an hour with him. I told him about the six guidelines of Amal Academy briefly and ask for his feedback, that how important he thinks these are.
For the readers, the 6 guidelines for moving up in your career are:
1. Put your time in: Everyone starts out doing grunt work till trust is proven
2. Don’t talk badly about the company or about your boss
3. Take control of your relationship with your boss and team members
4. Find a mentor and manage the relationship strategically
5. Join a professional body and build your network
6. Embrace change and reflect on what you are learning daily
According to him all these guidelines are very accurate and they have covered almost everything. He told me some stories about his good and bad experiences. He told me that, if you could find a good mentor, then you can enjoy and excel in your very easily and he had difficulties in finding a good mentor, which made him depressed.
He told me some stories about his grunt works and how he managed to make a place in people’s heart because he felt, it is essential to get friendly with the people for better communication and for asking favors. He also shared a couple of bad experiences, in which he faced some problems and how did he learnt from them.
He shared a story of a person in his work place, who has this habit of talking bad behind people and his behavior. He told me. By doing this kind of stuff, even those people used to think that he is a jerk. Whom with he used to talk about others.
He liked the last point very much, embrace changes and reflect on what you are learning daily. He advised me that I should always keep myself ready for changes and if I could make myself flexible enough, then it will be very easy for me to have a peaceful life in future.
In the end, I thanked him for these advises and for his time.
It was one of the best experience of my life.
