As the name suggests, Know The Origin, is accountable for every part of the fashion supply-chain from sourcing materials, manufacturing to marketing and selling. This means being transparent and responsible for the materials, labour, working conditions, wages and ultimately, their environmental impact.
Know The Origin develops clothing under its own banner (production of these garments is currently happening in India) but what is more exciting is that it also serves as a platform to promote and sell individual small scale brands that have been developed by people around the world (Australia and Portugal, to name a few). From underwear made with bamboo to shorts made from up-cycled plastic, the level of innovation and care is endearing, and you can’t help but appreciate the persistence required in making this concept, reality.
Charlotte, the co-founder has always believed in transparency and brought together a talented team of individuals wanting to start a new conversation between brands and consumers.
Here are some of the brands supported by Know The Origin that are particularly exciting:
Riz — Swimming shorts made from up-cycled plastic.
Hara — Underwear made from bamboo. Bamboo fabric is hypo allergenic which means it is a blessing for Eczema sufferers.
Asket — Involves the use of ethically sourced cotton in the USA, and buttons from ‘Mother of Pearl’ gathered in Indonesia. It’s a men’s clothing range which focuses less on seasonal wardrobes and more on developing a collection of clothes that is permanent and quality oriented, subject to constant perfection ‘like software’.
Seeker x Retreiver — Australian/Thai brand that makes garments in small quantities, using natural dyes from seasonal plants in Northern Thailand, and handwoven cotton.
Every brand has a story, and they all come together under the Know the Origin banner without compromising on quality or style. These stories are exciting, motivating but most importantly, they have nothing to hide. Unlike large retail brands on the high street today, everything about these enterprises is disclosed and celebrated, not buried under the carpet and forgotten.
Know the Origin has worked with each one, ensuring ethical values remain intact and a sustainable approach upheld. They are meeting our clothing needs, the designers’ financials yet carefully protecting the creativity and vision, of a more sustainable future.
