We turned five!
The All Star Code 5th Anniversary Kickoff event was a great success! Featuring 13 different projects by 16 alumni, we had over 200 guests who came together at the gorgeous High Line Hotel Rectory to celebrate diversity in the tech world.
The event received great press, with coverage in The Root, Hoy En Delaware, and A Full Circle Life with Zanade Mann. Many thanks to our alumni as well, whose phenomenal projects and pitches were a testament to their brilliant entrepreneurial spirits. Thanks to Google as well, who hosted our alumni and gave them invaluable advice in the week leading up. Check out coverage of that on NY1!
Our honoree for the inaugural All Star Code Hank Williams Trailblazer Award was Demma Rosa Rodriguez. She delivered a powerful speech to the packed crowed highlighting her work at Google, saying:
“Don’t be discouraged if you are one of the few or the only. Being a trailblazer means to blaze a way forward where there wasn’t a path before. Go forward with your head up and your back straight. You have the strength and support of your community at All Star Code and a legacy of persistence on your side.”
On hand to give her the award was Dr. Mayida Zaal, the wife of Hank Williams, and fellow Googler and Senior Engineering Director Marcus Mitchell. We were also honored to be sponsored by Google, Goldman Sachs, Marc Haas Foundation, and MCR Morse.
